Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet area located in The West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" place. The West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a large region that runs from Lachine all the way west. Many times, it is credited as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that is true, her stay there was short. Brugel lived in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. At the beginning of her life, she wanted to be a performer but an unexpected expansion of her body made it impossible. A Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. As soon as I outgrew the size of my male friends then I stopped. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in Brugel's case it was a nudge from the drama instructor at her high school that encouraged her to go in that direction. It was the teacher who recommended she take on a part in the annual school production. It was her choice to take on the principal character in Anne of Green Gables after she had a go at. The show led her to receive the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000, she received her BA in Fine Arts at York University. The career of Brugel spans more than 20 years and she has been in over 60 productions including big screen productions and on smaller ones. Her most recognizable role was as Rita (pictured beneath) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel, the only Canadian of the season 1 cast of the show and only seen occasionally was the sole Canadian.
